Wings avoid collapse to stay in playoff picture vs. Montreal, 4-3
Riley Sheahan broke a scoreless tie late in the 1st period and finished with a career-high two goals to help Detroit take a four-goal lead into the 3rd period as the Red Wings held on to defeat the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3.
Sheahan's second goal came 12 seconds after Luke Glendening scored early in the 2nd period. Playing in his fifth game, Anthony Mantha scored his first goal of his NHL career, which ultimately became the game-winning goal in the end. Starting goaltender Petr Mrazek made 26 saves for Detroit ( 85 pts.), who remain stuck in the last wild-card spot with Philadelphia ( 85 pts.) right behind them, who won their game against Colorado.
With Boston losing their fifth straight game, the Red Wings will have another chance to improve their playoff position in the Eastern Conference when they host Pittsburgh at the Joe Louis Arena this Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
