WRESTLEMANIA XXVII RESULTS
For the first time ever, WrestleMania kicked things off with the World Heavyweight Championship between the champion Edge & Alberto Del Rio. As the match progressed, Christian kept Brodus Clay at bay while Edge finished off Alberto with the spear to remain World Heavyweight Champion. After the match, Edge & Christian proceeded to ruin Alberto's car as Edge celebrated his win.
Appearing in his Captain America gear, Rey Mysterio took on Cody Rhodes. In this match, everything was used, from Rey's knee brace to Cody's protective mask, but in the end, Cody used Cross-Rhodes on Mysterio to come away with the upset victory.
In a special 8-man tag team match, Kofi Kingston filled in for the injured Vladimir Kozlov as he teamed up with Santino Marella, Kane, & the Big Show to face The Corre (IC champ Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, & Tag champs Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel). The match ended rather quickly when choas ensued, with Slater going down for the count after suffering Santino's cobra & Big Show's knockout punch.
In one-on-one action, Randy Orton took on CM Punk. Throughout the match, CM Punk worked on Orton's leg & avoided the kick to the skull as well as a RKO. But when Punk went for a flying clothsline, Orton caught him in mid-air with a RKO for the win.
With Booker T & Jim Ross doing commentary, Jerry "The King" Lawler finally faced Michael Cole in the ring. As Jack Swagger was coming down the isle to be at Cole's side, the special guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin showed up in a 4-wheeler and almost ran Swagger over. During the match, Austin gave Swagger the stunner after attempting to throw in the towel for Michael Cole. Lawler eventaully won the match with an ankle lock, causing a celebration in which Booker T just had to be a part of. But in typical Stone Cold fashion, Austin stunned Booker T before the Raw GM announced that since Austin put his hands on a competitor, the match was reversed & Michael Cole was declared the winner by disquailification. Unhappy, Lawler threw Josh Matthews, who was reading the e-mail, into the ring, only to be the next victim of a Stone Cold stunner.
In perhaps the best match of the night, Triple H went up against The Undertaker in a No Holds Barred match. The announce tables and even the Cole Mine was not safe from the destruction these two men laid out. Both men used their best moves, from Undertaker giving Triiple H the chockslam, the last ride, and the tombstone, to The Game returning the favor with 3 pedigrees, multiple chair shots, and even a tombstone of his own, but it still wasn't enough. Once Triple H grabbed his sledgehammer, Undertaker had enough left in him to apply his Hell's Gate submission hold. HHH tried to fight it for a few minutes, but after a while, he slowly tapped out. With both men unconscious, The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania continues at 19-0. After the match, The Undetaker had to be carried off on a stretcher.
In a special 6-person tag team match, John Morrison, Trish Stratus, & Snooki from Jersey Shore took on Lay-Cool & Dolph Ziggler. As Morrison took care of Dolph on the outside, Trish tagged in Snooki, who showed her athleticism against Michelle McCool and finished her off with a cartwheel splash. Along with Trish & Morrison, Snooki made history by winning her first ever WrestleMania match.
In the main event for the WWE Championship, the current champ, The Miz, with Alex Riley in his corner, faced off against John Cena, who came out to the singing of an Atlanta gospel choir, sporting a new red shirt & wristbands. Despite the distractions of Alex Riley, The Miz & Cena fought hard to the point that both men were outside the ring in the crowd for the count of 10. After the match a declared a double countout, WrestleMania host The Rock appeared and, despite what the Raw GM had to say, restarted the match with no countouts & no disquailifications. Moments after the match restarted, Cena threw The Miz outside the ring, only to turn around and get caught in a Rock Bottom! After The Miz slid back in the ring for the cover to remain WWE Champion, The Rock came back in and laid the smackdown on The Miz, followed up with the People's Elbow. At the end of the night, it was The Rock who stood tall.
