Caps advance; Bolts & Kings survive; Bruins lead 3-2
The Boston Bruins won their second OT game in three days when Nathan Horton scored at 9:03 of double overtime to defeat the Montreal Canadiens, 2-1 to take a 3-2 Eastern Conference first round series lead.
Alex Ovechkin quickly raced past and around defenseman Marc Staal to score the game’s highlight goal in the second period. In the process, the Washington Capitals made short work of the New York Rangers, beating them 3-1 to win the first round series in five games. All Washington can do now is wait to see what comes about as the rest of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals continue.
Steven Stamkos scored his first two NHL playoff goals as the Lightning emphatically avoided elimination with an 8-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 of their first round series.
Jonathan Quick made a Los Angeles playoff-record 51 saves and Kyle Clifford & Wayne Simmonds teamed up for a pair of first period goals to lead the Kings to a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks in Game 5 of their Western Conference quarterfinals, trimming the Sharks lead to 3-2.
