The Detroit Tigers kept the momentum and pressure on the New York Yankees by winning, 5-4 in Game 3 of the ALDS to take a 2-1 series lead.

Yankees starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia was unsually wild, walking five through three innings of work. The Tigers took advantage and put two in the 3rd inning and single runs in innings five through seven.

Brett Gardner tied the game at four in the 7th inning, but then, in the bottom of the inning, Delmon Young connected for his second homerun of the series to rightfield.

Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander pitched eight innings and threw 120 pitches in front of 43,581 fans and Jose Valverde saved the game in the 9th inning. The Tigers could wrap up the ALDS Tuesday night at Comerica Park. Game time is set for 8:30 pm.

Colby Lewis outpitched All-Star David Price and Mike Napoli hit a go-ahead homerun as the defending AL champion Texas Rangers survived a shaky effort from the bullpen to hold off the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3 in Game 3 of their best-of-five playoff series.

The Rangers’ fourth straight division series road win matched the third-longest streak in major league history and gave them a 2-1 lead heading into Game 4. Texas won three ALDS games at Tampa Bay a year ago, when it eliminated the Rays in five games.

The Rangers will send left-hander Matt Harrison to the mound Tuesday against Tampa Bay rookie Jeremy Hellickson.
