MSU enters Big 10 title game with rout of Indiana; EMU falls
Kirk Cousins threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns in just over a half as the #12 Michigan State Spartans clinched a spot in the inaugural Big Ten Championship game with a 55-3 rout of the Indiana Hoosiers.
The Spartans entered the game with a one-game lead in the Legends Division over both Nebraska and Michigan, who were playing at the same time in Ann Arbor. When the Wolverines won, it locked up the division for Michigan State (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten) because of its 28-14 win over Michigan on Oct. 15.
Cousins hit B.J. Cunningham for a 7-yard touchdown on Michigan State’s first possession of the second half, giving the Spartans a 41-3 lead. He left on the next possession.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles fell short in its bid for a comeback win against the Kent State Golden Flashes, losing by the final score of 28-22.
Trailing 28-22, EMU drove to the Kent State 19 yard line with less than 2 minutes in the fourth quarter, but an interception by Sidney Saulter at the goal line thwarted the drive. The loss leaves the Eagles at 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the MAC.
Eastern's junior running back Dominique Sherrer gained 136 yards on 24 carries and quarterback Alex Gillett completed 8-of-16 passes for 74 yards.
