Wayne State falls in Division II Championship game
Despite a 93-yard kickoff return on the first play of the game, followed by an interception on the third play of the game by Wayne State, Zac Dickey launched a 53-yard pass to Andrew Castaneda to set up the decisive touchdown in the Pittsburg State Gorillas’ 35-21 victory against the Warriors.
Wayne State (12-4) had navigated four playoff road games, but the team from downtown Detroit fell short of becoming the first unranked team to win the title.
Even though the Warriors outrushed the Gorillas, 211 to 187, Pittsburg State's 190 yards passing with 20 first downs proved too much for Wayne State.
