Central goes down, but Broncos advance in MAC tournament
Western Michigan used a 17-1 run in the second half to build a huge lead as the #8 Broncos defeated the #12 Northern Illinois Huskies, 71-54 in the second round of the 2012 Men's MAC Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mike Douglas finished with 19 points and senior Demetrius Ward would score 13 points to become the 36th member of the 1,000-point club at Western Michigan.
With the win, the Broncos improve to 14-19 on the season and will face the #4 Kent State Golden Flashes in the MAC quarterfinals this Thursday at 7 p.m.
Trey Zeigler became Central Michigan's first sophomore to score 1,000 points, but it came in a season-ending 75-72 loss to the #7 Toledo Rockets in the second round of the MAC Tournament.
The #11 Chippewas (11-21) never led, but erased a double-digit deficit late in the game to come within one on several occasions.
