Bad breaks plague Detroit against Predators in Game 3
The Detroit Red Wings knew that Nashville would slow the game down & try to halt their speed on the ice and they did in Game 3, losing 3-2 to the Predators, who now lead the best-of-seven series in the Western Conference quarterfinals, 2-1.
Right off the bat, Nashville scored close to three minutes into the game as Shea Weber's (2) backhand shot went past Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard. Detroit kept putting the pressure on the Predators' goalie Pekka Rinne with huge scoring chances by Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen.
Nashville scored early in the second, thanks to Kevin Klein (1), giving the Predators a 2-nothing lead. Detroit was coming after the Predators with numerous shots and chances, but could not buy a goal.
Pavel Datsyuk broke through with a wrap around goal past Rinne, cutting the Predators' lead to 2-1. Detroit could've tied the game at two as the 2nd period expired, but after further review, it was not to be because time had reached zero just a tenth of a second before the puck crossed the goalie line.
This game so evenly matched through the later part of the game and in the 3rd period, the Red Wings kept shooting and had no luck. That's when Sergi Kostitsyn finished the scoring with under two minutes remaining in regulation to secure the victory for Nashville.
Game 4 is set for this Tuesday Night at the Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 pm.
