Coyotes finish off Chicago without OT; Rangers survive
Brad Richards scored the go-ahead goal and Derek Stepan had a goal as two assists as the top-seed New York Rangers avoided elimination with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators. The Eastern Conference quarterfinal series will head back to Madison Square Garden for Game 7 on Thursday night. It's the first Game 7 in any sport at MSG in 17 years.
The Phoenix Coyotes, with Mike Smith making 39 saves, finished off the Chicago Blackhawks without the use of overtime, 4-0 to win the Western Conference quarterfinal series in six games. It's the first time the Coyotes captured a first-round playoff series since moving from Winnipeg to Phoenix for the 1996-97 season. The franchise's last opening-series victory came in 1987, when the team was called the Jets. Phoenix will remain in the midwest to prepare themselves for Nashville in the Western Conference semifinals.
