Even a great pitcher like Justin Verlander knows that each team he faces will be ready to beat him every night. This night the Red Sox hit outstanding pitches and doubled up the Tigers 6-3.

Verlander (5-3) went six innings and allowed five runs and ten hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. His pitch count was high 105 pitches but 75 of them were strikes.

Red Sox led early 1-0 in the second and open the lead with three more in the fourth. Jhonny Peralta and Prince Fielder hit solo homers in the fifth and sixth innings. Fielder's homerun was his eighth of the season.
