Schrezer strikes out 12 as Tigers shutout Colorado, 5-0
Despite a rain delay in the 4th inning, Max Scherzer struck out 12 in eight dominant innings as the Detroit Tigers shutout the Colorado Rockies, 5-0 on Father's Day.
Detroit rookie Quintin Berry had a career-high five hits, while Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera each had an RBI double. Gerald Laird added three hits to help the Tigers win their third straight series, all against National League teams.
Scherzer (6-4) struck out every Rockies starter other than Marco Scutaro in his third double-digit strikeout performance of the season. He gave up seven hits and didn't walk a batter while throwing 122 pitches.
With a day off on Monday, the Tigers will stay at Comerica Park as they prepare to face their 2006 World Series foes and current champions, St. Louis Cardinals. The first game is set for Tuesday night with Justin Verlander making the start for Detroit.
