Tiger bats come to life as they defeat the Indians 7-1 at Comerica Park.
The Detroit Tigers bats finally heated up tonight. Miguel Cabrera smashed a two-run bomb in the first inning, his 35th of the year, and Prince Fielder followed suit with a solo homer in the eighth to help the Tigers avoid a three-game sweep with a 7-1 win Wednesday night over the visiting Cleveland Indians. Doug Fister gave up only one run on four hits, striking out six, and surrendering only one walk in seven innings of work. Ubaldo Jimenez gave up four runs on six hits while going 7 1/3 innings. Jimenez settled down after Cabrera's home-run until the eighth inning when Detroit went on a tear exploding for five runs. The Tigers took the finale after losing the first two games of the series with identical 3-2 scores. Detroit remains just one game behind the Chicago White Sox in the A.L. Central. The Tigers now head out on a ten-game road trip against the Angels, White Sox, and Indians.
