Tigers keep pace with Sox after 7-1 win over Cleveland

The Detroit Tigers came away with a big win against Cleveland, 7-1. However, the Chicago White Sox also won their game against Minnesota, allowing them to stay one game ahead of Detroit in the AL Central division and reducing their magic number to 26. Both teams will resume action with a 3-day weekend series on Friday as the Sox host Kansas City while the Tigers head west to face the L.A. Angels.


AL EAST - The N.Y. Yankees regained control of the division and improved their magic number to 26 with a 6-4 win over Tampa Bay while Baltimore struggled against Toronto.

AL WEST - The Texas Rangers improved their magic number to 22 after defeating Kansas City while Oakland lost to the L.A. Angels.

AL WILD CARD - Even though Baltimore & Oakland both lost, they still maintained their wild card lead and reduced their magic number to 25, thanks to Tampa Bay losing to the N.Y. Yankees.

NL EAST - Washington & Atlanta came away with big wins, but it's the Nationals that reduced their magic number to 19 and holding on to a 7 & a half game lead over the Braves.

NL CENTRAL - Despite Cincinnati & St. Louis losing, the Reds still maintain an 8 & a half lead over the Cardinals with a magic number of 17.

NL WEST - San Francisco is still holding on to a 4 & a half game lead over the L.A. Dodgers, despite both teams losing close games.

NL WILD CARD - Atlanta & St. Louis are holding on to a game & a half lead in the wild card with a magic number of 25, despite both Pittsburgh & the L.A. Dodgers catching up.
