A year after the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees lost their aces after an inning and a half in the opener of the AL Division Series, they never got CC Sabathia or Max Scherzer onto a mound for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. With a storm system chugging its way north and east from Ohio toward Detroit, Major League Baseball delayed the start time (8 pm) for more than an hour, without the rain, in an effort to wait it out.

Just as a light rain began to fall at Comerica Park at 9:15 pm, MLB postponed Game 4 until this Thursday afternoon. Despite a rain delay with no rain that sent fans home without a single pitch, the downpour did stop around 3 a.m. with over a quarter-inch of rainfall. As a result, Game 4 will start at 4 pm with Scherzer & Sabathia still scheduled to pitch and the forecast calls for clear skies at 58 degrees. If there is a Game 5 to be played, it will take place this Friday at Comerica Park at a time to be determined.

Matt Carpenter hit a two-run homerun after subbing for Carlos Beltran as the St. Louis Cardinals got the best of Matt Cain before a 3 1/2-hour rain delay in the 7th inning in a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants to lead the National League Championship Series, 2-1.

Beltran strained his left knee running out a double-play ball in the 1st inning and the Cardinals stated that he was day to day. He's had issues off and on with the knee throughout the season, but played in 151 games and had 619 at-bats, his most since 2008.

With the Cardinals snapping the Giants' five-game road winning streak in the postseason, Game 4 will take place in St. Louis this Thursday night with Adam Wainwright pitching for the Cardinals and Tim Lincecum starting for the Giants.
