Pablo Sandoval joined Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols as the only sluggers to hit three home runs in a World Series game as the San Francisco Giants took care of Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers, 8-3, in Game 1.

Verlander was chased after allowing five runs and six hits in four innings, his shortest start this year, as he dropped to 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in World Series play.

In an attempt to make a comeback, Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run homerun for the Tigers in the 9th inning off reliever George Kontos, but that was it for Detroit's offense.

Detroit will try to even the series this Thursday night as they send Doug Fister to the mound against San Francisco's Madison Bumgarner.
