In the 10th inning, Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera, locked in on the breaking ball he’d seen so often in the at-bat, stared at Sergio Romo’s fastball for the called third strike that secured the San Francisco Giants’ 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.
By sweeping the World Series 4-0, the Giants became the 2012 World Series Champions and 3rd baseman Pablo Sandoval was named World Series MVP.
It’s the first time the Tigers have ever been swept in a postseason series. They mustered six runs, went 20 innings without scoring, and hit .159 as a team.
Cabrera hit a two-run homerun to help the Tigers stretch the game to 10 innings, but was able to hit only .231 in the World Series.
