Louisville defeats Michigan, 82-76, to become champions
The #4 Michigan Wolverines led by as many as 12 points in the first half -- on the strength of 17 points from freshman guard Spike Albrecht in the opening 20 minutes -- but the #1 Louisville Cardinals rallied to become the national champions with an 82-76 victory at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Trey Burke finished the game with a team-best 24 points and three assists in the contest. Tim Hardaway Jr. contributed 12 points, five rebounds, & four assists while Spike Albrecht finished with 17 points in the game. Freshman forward Mitch McGary was held in check due to some foul trouble, posting only six points and six rebounds against the Cardinals.
Despite questionable calls being made in the closing minutes of the game, including a blocked dunk, in which replays showed it was clean, but was rules a foul, Louisville heads back home with the championship and will tune in Tuesday night to see if their female counterparts can do the same against Connecticut in the NCAA Women's National Championship.
