Pistons select three new guards in 2013 NBA Draft
With the 2013 Draft being the last for NBA Commissioner David Stern, he announced that with the 8th pick, the Detroit Pistons bypassed Michigan guard Trey Burke & Detroit guard Ray McCallum to select shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope from the University of Georgia.
At 6'6/204 lbs., Caldwell-Pope was the first Georgia player since Dominique Wilkins in 1981 to sweep the two major player-of-the-year awards in the Southeastern Conference (league coaches, Associated Press). He ranked among SEC leaders in nine of 13 categories while leading the Bulldogs in scoring in 29 of 32 games and in rebounding 16 times.
In the 2nd round, the Pistons took the 6-foot-9 shooting guard Tony Mitchell out of North Texas with the 37th overall pick. Mitchell averaged 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds as a sophomore and leaves the school as its all-time leader in blocks (157).
And with the last pick of the draft at #56, Detroit drafted 6'1 point guard Peyton Siva from the national champion Louisville Cardinals. Siva led Louisville in assists, steals and free-throw percentage and averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.1 steals in nine postseason games. He is also the all-time leader in steals (254) and holds a school single-season record of 90 steals from this past season.
