USA defeats Russia in an Olympic hockey shootout, 3-2
While it may not be the "Miracle" of 1980, the rival was renewed for the new generation as Team USA earned a hard-fought victory as T.J. Oshie scored the shootout winner against Russia, 3-2.
With the score tied 2-2 in the 3rd period, the Russians appeared to score the winner with just under five minutes left, but referees Marcus Vinnerborg and Brad Meier disallowed the goal apparently because the net had been knocked out of place.
Detroit Red Wing & Russia's team captain Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals in regulation for the Russians, while Joe Pavelski & Cam Fowler scored powerplay goals for the Americans with Russian forward Alexander Radulov sitting in the penalty box.
Up next for Team USA is a matchup against Slovenia this Sunday morning at 7:30 am.
