WMU advance to MAC final; U-M & MSU move on to Big 10 semis

David Brown nailed a three-pointer with 32 seconds remaining in overtime as the Western Michigan Broncos erased an 18-point deficit to advance to within one win of the NCAA Tournament with a 64-60 win over the Akron Zips. With the win, the Broncos improve to 22-9 on the season and will play in the 2014 MAC Championship this Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.




The Eastern Michigan Eagles' season came to a close in a 59-44 loss to the Toledo Rockets in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Despite achieving eight blocked shots, the Eagles could not overcome a 32% shooting percentage in the loss. While Toledo moves on to the MAC Championship to face Western Michigan, EMU's season ends with a 21-14 record, which is their best since the 1996-97 season.




The Michigan Wolverines survived a second-half charge and Jordan Morgan made the game-winning shot with 7.9 seconds left to defeat the Illinois Fighting Illini, 64-63, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament at Banker's Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Michigan will move on to the semifinals to face their arch-rival Ohio State this Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.




Branden Dawson had 16 points and Gary Harris added 13 points to lead the Michigan State Spartans to a 67-51 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans are set to take on WIsconsin in the semifinals this Saturday afternoon at 4 pm.




The Central Michigan Chippewas made just one second-half 3-pointer and were 4-for-22 from long range for the game as the Akron Zips defeated them, 85-69, in the women's MAC Semifinals at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. With a 20-12 record, the Chippewas are hopeful for a post-season bid.
