KC stuns Baltimore again; Giants shut down Cards in Game 1
Alcides Escobar doubled in the go-ahead run in the 9th inning and Mike Moustakas extended his homerun streak as the Kansas City Royals remained undefeated in the playoffs by defeating the Baltimore Orioles, 6-4, for a 2-0 lead in the American League Championship Series.
The Royals will now head back home to Kansas City with the knowledge that no team has ever lost a best-of-seven LCS after winning the first two games on the road. Game 3 will be this Monday night at Kauffman Stadium with former Oriole Jeremy Guthrie starting for the Royals against either Wei-Yin Chen or Miguel Gonzalez for Baltimore.
Madison Bumgarner pitched a shutout into the 8th inning as the San Francisco Giants combined just enough hitting with a couple of defensive flubs by St. Louis to beat the Cardinals, 3-0, in the National League Championship Series opener. Bumgarner set a major league postseason record with 26 & 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings on the road.
Jake Peavy is set to start Game 2 for the Giants this Sunday night against St. Louis' Lance Lynn.
