Controversy causes Titans to lose at the buzzer vs. Falcons
The Detroit Titans lost, 64-63, to the visiting Bowling Green Falcons at the buzzer inside Calihan Hall, even though the loss was surrounded by negligence.
Detroit senior forward Juwan Howard Jr. hit the go-ahead jumper with 2.4 seconds left to give Detroit a 63-62 lead. Soon after UDM sophomore Matthew Grant nearly stole the ball on the insuing inbounds play that was ruled out of bounds, the referees decided to put 2.2 seconds back on the clock instead of confirming on the video replay the correct amount of time remaining in the 2nd half. As a result, Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes had just enough time to score the lay-up at the buzzer.
Freshman Paris Bass finished with 17 points, six rebounds, and four steals for Detroit (4-3) off the bench. Howard added 14 points while junior Anton Wilson scored 13 points for the Titans, including three 3-pointers. Detroit will be back on the court at Calihan Hall tomorrow (Monday) to host Aquinas at 7 pm.
