#7 Spartans take down #2 Virginia; Wichita St. eliminates Kansas

Travis Trice scored 23 points to help the #7 Michigan State Spartans knock the #2 Virginia Cavaliers out of the NCAA men's tournament for the second straight year, 60-54.

Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Spartans, who advanced to the Sweet 16 for the 7th time in the past eight seasons under head coach Tom Izzo.

Michigan State will play #3 Oklahoma in the Sweet 16 of the East region at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York this Friday night.




#7 Wichita State have tried for years to schedule a game against Kansas, but the Big 12 school from the same state has always refused, arguing they would have nothing to gain from it.

Finally getting a chance to play the school that continually spurns them, Fred VanVleet and the rest of the Shockers rolled to a 78-65 victory over the #2 Jayhawks to earn in-state bragging rights and a trip to the Sweet 16 in the 2015 NCAA men's tournament.

Tekele Cotton scored 19 points for the Wichita State (30-4), and VanVleet finished with 17 points. Evan Wessel hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points to help the Shockers advance to Cleveland, Ohio for a Midwest Regional Sweet 16 matchup against #3 Notre Dame.
