Spartans humbled by Purdue, 67-47
It was just one of those days head coach Tom Izzo would love to forget about. Disappointing as it was for him, it was just as hard for the near-15,000 Spartan fans in attendance to watch as Michigan State suffered a rare beatdown at the hands of Purdue, 67-47. The last time MSU lost by 20 or more points was against the Badgers at Wisconsin earlier in the month.
Kalin Lucas lead the Spartans with 23 points, but three Boilermakers scoring in double digits was the major factor, including Purdue's JaJuan Johnson leading his team with 20 points & 7 blocks. Plus, scoring only 9% from the 3-point line didn't help MSU any while Purdue shot 37%.
Michigan State (16-12, 8-8 Big Ten) will attempt to lock in the 4th seed in this year's Big Ten Tournament with their last two regular season games coming up. The race begins this Wednesday at home against Iowa at 6:30 pm, followed by the showdown in Ann Arbor against Michigan, Saturday, March 5th at 2 pm.
