GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS - 2015 NBA CHAMPIONS
NBA MVP Stephen Curry & Andre Iguodala, who was named NBA Finals MVP, each scored 25 points and Michigan State's own Draymond Green recorded a triple-double (16 points, 11 rebounds, & 10 assists) as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games, 105-97, to become the 2015 NBA Champions. It's been 40 years in the making as Golden State won their first title since 1975.
The Warriors finished the season with 83 wins, which the third-highest single-season total in NBA history. Only the '96 & '97 Chicago Bulls won more, and head coach Steve Kerr was on both of those teams. The 49-year-old former NBA guard won three titles with Chicago and two more with San Antonio. Kerr is also the first rookie head coach to win a NBA championship since Pat Riley in 1982.
Entering the postseason as a #1 seed in the Western Conference this season, Golden State's road to glory included sweeping New Orleans, rallying from a 2-1 series deficit to defeat Memphis, wiping out Houston in five games to win the West, and dethroning Cleveland in the Finals in six games.
With a parade all set up for this Friday at noon in Oakland, California, all that's left now the Warriors, and the rest of the NBA, is to get ready for a new season, starting with the 2015 NBA Draft, which starts next Thursday on June 25th.
