Verlander almost throws no-hitter as Tigers shutout Angels, 5-0
Justin Verlander lost a bid for his third no-hitter when Chris Iannetta lined a leadoff double in the 9th inning that landed on the left-field line as the Detroit Tigers shutout the Los Angeles Angels, 5-0.
Verlander (2-6) recorded his 7th career shutout and his first in over three years. He struck out nine batters and walked two for his first win since July 29th. Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Martinez, and Nick Castellanos homered to help Detroit stop a five-game losing streak.
The Tigers will wrap up their three-game series with the L.A. Angels at Comerica Park this Thursday afternoon at 1 pm.
