EMU women pull off huge win over Michigan; U-M men victorious
The Eastern Michigan Eagles of Ypsilanti won bragging rights in Washtenaw County as they defeated the Michigan Wolverines of Ann Arbor for the first time in three years in a thrilling game at the Convocation Center, 64-63. Eastern (8-2) trailed for 39 minutes before regaining the lead with one minute to play.
Junior Phillis Webb led EMU with 22 points while finishing just one rebound shy of the double-double. Chanise Baldwin had 14 points, junior Cha Sweeney added 12 points, and junior Janay Morton finished the night with 11 points.
Up next for the Eagles is a trip to the Motor City to face the Detroit Titans at Calihan Hall next Wednesday night (Dec. 30) at 7 pm. Meanwhile, the Wolverines will be back home in Ann Arbor next week to begin the Big Ten portion of their season as they host Purdue on New Year's Eve (Thursday) at 1 pm.
Four years after Michigan tied a school record with 16 three-pointers against Bryant, they broke the mark with 17 threes as the Wolverines crushed the Bulldogs, 96-60.
Caris LeVert had 19 points and eight assists as Michigan (10-3) had other five players finish in double figures.
The Wolverines will start their Big Ten season next Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 30) when they travel to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini at 3 pm.
