Season ends for UDM women; CMU & EMU advance

The Titan women tried valiantly to make things tough for opponents all season, but it all came crashing down Wednesday as they were beaten very badly in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament against the Butler Bulldogs, 64-38. Detroit just couldn't get the ball to go through the hoop all night as Jalesa Jones led the the Titans with only eight points, plus shooting 25% from the field didn't help either. Detroit finished the season at 13-18 and with five players becoming seniors next season, head coach Autumn Rademacher is hopeful that they'll learn from this humbling loss and bounce back stronger than ever in 2012.




In the quarterfinals of the women's MAC tournament, Central & Eastern Michigan earned hard fought victories. #3 Central Michigan beat down #6 Buffalo, 90-69, thanks in part to CMU's Shonda Long scoring a career-high 40 points, which is only the 4th time in tournament history that a player scored 40 or more points. In the nightcap, #5 Eastern Michigan held on to the very end to defeat #4 Kent State, 69-65, despite giving up a double digit lead midway in the 2nd half. There's a chance these two teams could meet for the MAC championship, but first they must go through the semifinals on Friday, in which Central will face #2 Bowling Green at 12 pm, followed by Eastern taking on #1 Toledo at approximetly 2:30 pm.
