Green scores hat trick to lead Wings past Ottawa at the Joe, 5-1
Mike Green helped celebrate the final home opener at the Joe Louis Arena in style by scoring his first ever hat trick to help the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Ottawa Senators, 5-1.
In a game where Gordie Howe was honored since his passing, Darren Helm added in two more goals for Detroit, goaltender Petr Mrazek made 31 saves, and Jonathan Ericsson fired up the crowd by dropping his gloves and fighting Ottawa's Dion Phaneuf less than 6 minutes into the game.
After earning their first points of the season, the Red Wings will now head to New York City to face the Rangers this Wednesday night inside Madison Square Garden at 8 pm.
