First two in: Irish & Stanford advance to women's Final Four
Skylar Diggins led the Fighting Irish with 24 points as #2 Notre Dame made up for 28 years of beatings at the hands of Tennessee, upsetting the #1 Lady Volunteers, 73-59 in the Dayton regional finals to earn a spot in the 2011 women's Final Four. The Irish came in 0-20 all-time against the Lady Vols, but the operative number on this night was 3-0 - Notre Dame's record in regional championship games. The Irish will head to the Final Four for the first time since 2001, when they won the national championship.
Stanford's Nnemkadi Ogwumike dominated the inside with 23 points & 11 rebounds and her sister, Chiney, chipped in with 18 points & 15 boards as the #1 Cardinal are headed back to its fourth straight Final Four after ending the surprising run of the #11 Gonzaga Bulldogs, 83-60 in the Spokane regional finals. With the win, Stanford reaches its 10th Final Four overall and fourth in a row.
Tonight, the Final Four will be set with the completion of the last two regional finals with the Philadelphia finals starting off the night at 7 pm ET between #1 Connecticut & #2 Duke, followed by the Texas showdown in Dallas between #1 Baylor & #2 Texas A&M at 9 pm ET.
