Red Wings edge Chicago, 4-3 & set to face Phoenix in the playoffs
Back in early October, the Red Wings ruined Chicago's Stanley Cup banner night with a 3-2 victory. They nearly did the same with the Blackhawks' chances of making the playoffs.
Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard made 33 saves as the Detroit defeated Chicago with a 4-3 victory. Fortunately for the Blackhawks, they were able to clinch the 8th & final spot in the Western Conference, thanks to the Dallas Stars losing to the Minnesota Wild later on that night.
Drew Miller, Danny Cleary, Tomas Holmstrom and Pavel Datsyuk scored for the Red Wings, who had already locked down the No. 3 playoff seed in the West and were trying to build momentum for the playoffs. The Blackhawks had beaten the Red Wings 4-2 Friday night in Detroit.
With the win, the Red Wings will now focus their attention on the Phoenix Coyotes for a 7-game series in the Western Conference quarterfinals. Game 1 is set for Wednesday night at 7 pm from the Joe Louis Arena.
