Tigers shutout A's, 3-0; Coke gets 1st win as starter
In his 2nd attempt as a starting pitcher, Phil Coke threw seven smooth, shutout innings and allowed only three hits as he helped the Tigers shutdown the Oakland Athletics, 3-0. All three hits Coke allowed were singles. He never let the first hitter of the inning reach base. He retired 13 of the final 14 hitters he faced.
With his performance, Coke also received run support when Ryan Raburn doubled home a run with two outs in the top of the 7th inning and the 8th inning began with three walks before Ramon Santiago hit a sacrifice fly on which a throwing error to third base brought home another run.
The Tigers will look to continue their winning ways when they face Oakland again Friday night at 10 pm ET.
