Despite lockout, Lions wrap up draft with a LB & OL
Despite the NFL still on a lockout, even after having it lifted for a day, the Lions finished off the 2011 NFL Draft with a linebacker to further add to an already impressive defensive line & an offensive lineman, which Detroit desperately needed, considering the quarterbacks from last season were plagued by injuries.
For the 157th overall pick in the 5th round, the Lions selected linebacker Doug Hogue from Syracuse. At 6'3, 235 pounds, Hogue is a good athlete with good speed (he ran a 4.63 at the combine). He is expected to be a contributor on special teams and learn the ropes as a depth guy with the linebacker corps.
And with the last pick in the 7th round (209 overall), Detroit selected the offensive lineman Johnny Culbreath. Standing 6'5 and weighing 322 pounds, Culbreath was a four-year starter at South Carolina State. With his size & athleticism, he could play either a guard or a tackle.
With the future of the NFL still uncertain due to the lockout, the Detroit Lions will look to be prepared whenever they are allowed to resume operations.
