Red Wings survive again with late rally, 4-3
Tomas Holmstrom broke a tie with 6:08 remaining, and the Red Wings scored three third-period goals to avoid elimination with a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Danny Cleary and Jonathan Ericsson also scored in the final period to send the series back to the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for Game 6 on Tuesday night. After winning the first three games, San Jose is clinging to a 3-2 series lead.
The Red Wings are trying to become the fourth team in NHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit. They’re halfway there after exerting their will in a game the Sharks had in control until early in the third period.
