Tigers' magic number goes down to 21 after Indians win
The Tigers defeated the White Sox, 8-1 but the Indians held on to beat the Royals, 5-4. Therefore, since Cleveland currently has sole possession of 2nd place, Detroit's magic number to clinch the AL Central is now 21. Brad Penny starts for the Tigers on Saturday while the Indians continue their road trip in Kansas City Saturday night.
AL EAST - With Boston getting shutout by Texas, 10-0, the N.Y. Yankees, win a 3-2 win over Toronto, now leads the divison by a half game with a magic number of 26.
AL WEST - With the L.A. Angels losing bad to Minnesota, 13-5, Texas took advantage with a 10-0 shutout of Boston and reduced their magic number to 20.
AL WILD CARD - Now that the Yankees currently lead the AL East, Boston now holds the wild card spot and with Tampa Bay losing, the Red Sox' magic number is 17.
NL EAST - Philadelphia inched closer to their divison pennant as their magic number dropped down to 19 with a 5-3 win over Florida and Atlanta losing to the L.A. Dodgers, 8-6.
NL CENTRAL - Milwaukee's momentum continues with their magic number now at 16 due to an 8-2 beatdown of Houston and St. Louis losing to Cincinnati, 11-8.
NL WEST - Arizona's magic number remains stuck at 20, thanks to the San Francisco Giants defeating them, 6-2. Giants are now 5 games behind the D'Backs.
NL WILD CARD - Atlanta's magic number remains at 17 with now San Francisco & St. Louis tied behind them (both 73-65) and trailing 8 1/2 games back.
