Tigers draw closer to the AL Central title
With the win against Minnesota Friday night, combined with a White Sox loss to Cleveland, the Detroit Tigers' magic number goes down to 10 and are roughly a week away from clinching the American League Central. At 4 pm today, Detroit will play Minnesota while Chicago tangles with the Indians.
AL EAST - Both the N.Y. Yankees & Boston took a loss last night, but New York's magic number went down to 17.
AL WEST - Texas dominated Oakland last night, but with the game-winner by the L.A. Angels against the Yankees caused the Rangers' magic number to go down to only 16.
AL WILD CARD - Boston's magic number stays at 14 after the loss to Tampa Bay.
NL EAST - With the win against Milwaukee and thanks to Atlanta losing to St. Louis, Philadelphia's magic number is reduced to 9.
NL CENTRAL - After the loss to Philadelphia and with St. Louis defeating Atlanta, Milwaukee's magic number stalls at 11.
NL WEST - Arizona's magic number went down to 10 after defeating San Diego while San Francisco lost to the L.A. Dodgers.
NL WILD CARD - Atlanta's magic number stays at 12 after losing to St. Louis last night.
WNBA champion & former Detroit Shock star Katie Smith scored a team-high 26 points to led the Seattle Storm past the Phoenix Mercury, 85-70 to clinch the #2 seed in the Western Conference for the 2011 playoffs. The top four teams in the Eastern Conference (Indiana, Connecticut, Atlanta, & New York) battle for positioning in the playoffs this Sunday as the regular season draws to a close.
