James Orr named East Coast Regional Crosschecker
The Detroit Tigers announced that James Orr has been named the organization’s East Coast Regional Crosschecker in the amateur scouting department.
Orr joined the Tigers organization as the Assistant Director, Amateur Scouting on November 4, 2004. Prior to joining the Tigers, he worked in the scouting department for both the Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox. Orr was hired as a scouting assistant with the Marlins in October of 1998, a position he held until being named as an area scout in Texas in July of 2001. He served two seasons with the Red Sox as the Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting (2002-03), before he spent 2004 as an area scout for the club in Florida.
Murray Cook will serve as an area scout for the organization, covering Central Florida and the Northeast. He joined the Tigers amateur scouting department five years ago.
Matt Lea has joined the Tigers organization and he will serve as an area scout in Southern California and Hawaii. He worked as an intern in the club’s amateur scouting department in 2011 after he concluded his pitching career at the University of Louisville.
