UDM men's basketball ready to play contenders this season
The Detroit Titans, coming off a season in which they finished 17-16 overall and sixth place in the Horizon League with a 10-8 conference record, were picked to climb the standings and finish second in the Horizon League by both the coaches and media preseason polls.
Detroit also had three players selected to the Preseason All-Horizon League First Team in sophomore guard Ray McCallum Jr. (Birmingham Detroit Country Day), senior guard Chase Simon and senior center Eli Holman. McCallum Jr. was tabbed as Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year.
Detroit, who hasn't reached the NCAA Tournament since 1999, has six seniors and four juniors on its roster this season, in addition to the coach’s son, McCallum Jr., who’s expected to be one of the most talented sophomores in the country this season.
The Titans’ top four scorers from last year’s team are all back, including the dangerous backcourt tandem of McCallum Jr. and Simon, both led the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game.
Detroit is projected to be the second best in the Horizon League coming into this season, but they look like the hunter more than the hunted.
