Tigers lose in the ninth 3-2 at Seattle
Detroit's Doug Fister coming back from the disabled list was a test for this pitching staff but boy did he come through pitching seven scoreless innings. He threw 73 pitches and 51 of them were strikes. The bullpen could not hold the lead and Seattle beat the Tigers in the ninth 3-2.
Tigers led throughout by an RBI double from Prince Fielder in the first inning and Brennan Boesch's RBI single in the fourth. When Fister left the game in the eighth the bullpen was a little light because manager Jim Leyland would not use Jose Valverde or Joaquin Benoit, so Octavio Dotel came in but had huge problems with his control. Dotel had two walks and a wild pitch in the ninth then Duane Below relieved him and the Mariners scored the game winning run on a sacrafice fly.
