The Detroit Tigers escaped with a win today in a nail biter game that didn't have to be that way. The Royals started off the scoring with two runs in the first with RBI's from Billy Butler, and Mike Moustakas. Detroit would counter in the bottom of the first, when Prince Fielder goes deep with his (14) home-run of the season knoking in Austin Jackson, and tying the score 2-2. The Tigers added three runs in the second inning with RBI's from Gerald Laird, and Austin Jackson. Detroit scores once more in the fourth to go ahead 6-2. The Royals answered in the fifth with a Mike Moustakas home-run making it 6-3. Kansas City would get another run in the seventh, closing in on the Tigers to make it 6-4. Detroit went to the big hit once more, when Delmon Young homered(9) bringing in Miguel Cabrera from first to make it 8-4. The Tiger bullpen was superb getting to Jose Valverde in the ninth.that is when the nailbiting began. Jose loaded up the bases, and allowed the Royals three runs making it 8-7 before striking out Jeff Francour to record the third out.
Doug Fister ended up with the win (2-6) on the year. Detroit goes for the sweep on Sunday sending Max Sherzer (7-5, 4.98) to the mound to face Everett Teaford (1-1, 4.70)
