Red Wings activate veteran center Pavel Datsyuk

The Detroit Red Wings announced that veteran forward Pavel Datsyuk has been removed from the team’s Injured Reserve List. Datysuk has missed 15 games since suffering a broken wrist in the early stages of a 5-4 home win over the Vancouver Canucks on December 22. The 32-year-old center was Detroit ’s leading scorer (33GP-12G-27A-39P) at the time of his injury.

The Red Wings also announced that forwards Jan Mursak and Cory Emmerton have both been reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL).

Emmerton, 22, appeared in two games for Detroit after being recalled from Grand Rapids on an emergency basis on January 22. The 6’0”, 190 lb. center scored a goal in his NHL debut later that afternoon, becoming the second Red Wings player to accomplish this feat in 2010-11 (Tomas Tatar is the other). A native of St. Thomas , ON , Emmerton was originally selected by the Red Wings in Round Two (41st overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. In 185 career AHL games with the Griffins, Emmerton has tallied 28G-68A-96P-58PIM.


Mursak, 23, was recalled by the Red Wings on December 27 after having registered 10G-13A-23P-29PIM in 33 games with Grand Rapids to start the season. Selected by Detroit in Round Six (182nd Overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Mursak competed in 14 games with the Red Wings in December and January, recording 1G-0A-1P-4PIM. The European-born winger became just the second player in Slovenian national history to skate in the NHL ( Los Angeles ’ Anze Kopitar is the other) when he made his debut with Detroit on December 27 in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Denver ’s Pepsi Center .
