Justin Verlander pitches four-hit shutout, strikes out 11. Tigers defeat Athletics 6-0 move on to ALCS.

The Detroit Tigers needed their ace Justin Verlander to come through Thursday night, and he did in a big way. Verlander threw his first post season shutout defeating the Oakland Athletics 6-0 leading Detroit to their second consecutive ALCS. Verlander pitched a complete game gem giving up just four hits, one walk while striking out eleven batters on 122 pitches. Oakland's potent offense was kept off balance all night long one night after their epic comeback win against Jose Valverde. Detroit's bats heated up early, scoring two runs in the third inning with Austin Jackson driving in Omar Infante, and scoring himself on a wild pitch by Jarrod Parker. The Tigers struck again big in the seventh inning scoring four runs taking a 6-0 lead. Oakland had no answer for the remainder of the game as their miraculous season finally came to an end. Detroit will now move on to the ALCS waiting for the winner of the Yankees-Orioles series which has also been extended to a fifth game.
