It looked like Justin Verlander was in regular season form throwing three perfect innings and 35 pitches but the Mets beat Detroit 6-2.
Avisail Garcia hit a two run homer in the fifth inning, Bruce Rondon took the loss (0-1).
Tigers play split squad games against the Yankees and Pirates on Saturday.
