Justin Verlander pitched into the fifth inning holding on to a 9-5 lead before a 62 minute rain delay stopped action. Verlander returned to finish the fifth to record his fifth win of the season. Miguel Cabrera was 2 for 4 with a long home run to centerfield off the glove of outfielder Michael Bourn, putting the Tigers up 11-7. Detroit beat up Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez for six runs, knocking him out of the game in the fourth inning. Smyly, Putkonen, Benoit, and Valverde allowed only two runs from the Bullpen to get the job done. The Tigers swept the short two game series to pull within a half game of the Indians in the AL Central. Detroit returns home on the red eye express to host the Minnesota Twins for a four game set. Thursday night pits Rick Porcello (2-2, 5.92) for Detroit against Twins starter Scott Diamond (3-4, 4.99) for a 7:08 start.
