Max Scherzer won his tenth game of the season on Monday night in front of the home town faithful, and is now 10-0 on the year. Max pitched six innings allowing only one run, a homerun to Chris Davis in the second inning on just seven hits, while striking out ten Orioles. Scherzer becomes the first Tiger pitcher since George Mullin in 1909 to start a season 10-0. Scherzer also struck out ten batters, his fifteenth career game with ten or more strikeouts, and his fifth this season. Miguel Cabrera started the scoring for Detroit in the first inning when he hit the first pitch off of Oriole starter Jake Arrieta deep to right field for a two-run bomb. it didn't get any better for Arrieta, as he gave up five runs on ten hits in 4 2/3 innings. Omar Infante went 4x4 on the night, and Austin Jackson picked up three hits with two runs scored and an RBI on the night. Jhonny Peralta had two hits scoring a run and collecting an RBI. Drew Smyly started the seventh inning, and picked up his second save of the season shutting down the Orioles through the ninth inning, giving the Tigers the 5-1 victory. Detroit hopes to make it two straight against Baltimore on Tuesday night, when they send their ace Justin Verlander (8-4, 3.41) to the mound to face Zach Britton (0-1, 9.00) for a 7:08 start.
