Cabrera hits walk-off homerun as Tigers defeat Royals, 6-5
After a doubleheader setback against the Royals on Friday, Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI's and nailed the game-winning walk-off homerun in the 9th inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 6-5 win over Kansas City.
As competitive as the game was, Prince Fielder hit a solo homerun in the 7th inning and starting pitcher Doug Fister pitched 6 & 1/3 innings for Detroit, who gave up three runs on ten hits while striking out six batters. Relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit was credited with the win after pitching a scoreless 9th inning.
Detroit will wrap up the 5-game weekend series with Kansas City this Sunday afternoon when they send Max Scherzer (17-1) to the mound to face the Royals' Bruce Chen (5-0) for a 1 pm start.
