Tigers move closer to Central title with 4-2 win over Twins
Detroit scored all their runs on three 4th-inning homeruns and the bullpen backed starting pitcher Doug Fister as the Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins, 4-2, to reduce their magic number in the AL Central Division to one. The Tigers would've clinched the division title, but a walkoff two-run homerun in the 9th inning by Cleveland spoiled the moment as the Indians beat the Chicago White Sox, 5-4.
Detroit officially secured a playoff spot, but in order the claim the division, they would have to beat Minnesota OR hope Cleveland loses to the White Sox. The Tigers will wrap up the 3-game series with the Twins this Tuesday night at 8 pm in hopes of celebrating a championship.
MAGIC NUMBERS AROUND THE LEAGUE
NL CENTRAL - St. Louis down to 3 after shutting out Washington & Pittsburgh defeating the Chicago Cubs
AL WILD CARD - Tampa Bay & Cleveland down to 5 after wins and Texas defeating Houston
