The #19 Michigan Wolverines had its first comfortable win in a month as they dominated the Minnesota Golden Golphers, 42-13, in front of 111,079 fans at Michigan Stadium. U-M's tight end Devin Funchess caught the ball seven times from quarterback Devin Gardner for 151 yards and a touchdown.

The Michigan State Spartans earned a 26-14 road win over the Iowa Hawkeyes to open their Big Ten portion of the season. MSU (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) ruined homecoming at Kinnick Stadium with two long touchdown passes and 412 yards on the Big Ten’s #2-ranked defense.

Sophomore running back Saylor Lavallii rushed for a career-high 151 yards and two touchdowns as the Central Michigan defense recorded four sacks to help lift the Chippewas to a 21-9 MAC win over the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks at Yager Stadium in Oxford. The game was suspended early in the 2nd quarter due to lightning in the area, but resumed after a 49-minute delay. CMU rushed for a total of 184 yards on the day.

In their first MAC game away from home, the Eastern Michigan Eagles fell hard to the Buffalo Bulls, 42-14. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 1-4 (0-2 MAC) on the season while Buffalo improves to 3-2 (1-0 MAC) with its third straight victory. EMU quarterback Tyler Benz finished 12-of-19 for 157 yards and running back Ryan Brumfield led the ground attack with 79 yards on only two carries, including a 75-yard touchdown run late in the 4th quarter.

The Western Michigan Broncos suffered their second loss of the Mid-American Conference season after falling to the Toledo Rockets, 47-20. Toledo turned three WMU turnovers into 17 points as the Rockets scored one play after an interception from WMU quarterback Tyler Van Tubbergen in the 1st quarter, turned another turnover into a field goal, and scored on a fumble recovery in the 3rd quarter.
