Wichita St. & Notre Dame enter NCAA tournament undefeated
Three Rams recorded double-doubles as Fordham defeated the Dayton Flyers, 63-51, to become the 2014 Atlantic 10 women's champions. The win also help the Rams clinched their second NCAA tournament berth in program history.
For the first time in 21 years, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will be a part of the NCAA Tournament after earning a 76-61 victory in the Big South Conference Championship game over in-state rival Winthrop Eagles. The conference championship is the first for the Chanticleers since 1991 and the NCAA Tournament berth is the first since 1993.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers captured the first ever Big Ten women's title in school history after defeating the Iowa Hawkeyes, 72-65, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Mercer Bears withstood numerous comeback attempts from the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to capture the 2014 Atlantic Sun championship with a 68-60 victory at Alico Arena on FGCU's campus. Mercer's win punched the team's ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1985.
Fred VanVleet scored 22 points including several key baskets late to lead the Wichita State Shockers to a 34-0 undefeated record after defeating the Indiana State Sycamores, 83-69, in the Missouri Valley Championship. Wichita State remains the only undefeated team in men's college basketball and has matched the NCAA record for victories to start the season, held by UNLV in 1990-91, with their third straight tournament win after going 18-0 in the conference regular season. The Shockers also won their first conference tournament since 1987.
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers captured their record 17th SEC Championship with a 71-70 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats. The Lady Vols have now won four of the last six SEC Tournament titles and seven of the last ten.
Three-time Big South Player of the Year Dequesha McClanahan can now add Tournament MVP to her impressive resume after leading the Winthrop Eagles to their first ever Big South women's championship in school history with an 87-74 win over the High Point Panthers at the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina.
Make it two tournament titles in two leagues & two years as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish capped off their perfect first run through the ACC by defeating the Duke Blue Devils, 69-53 to become the 2014 ACC women's champions. The Fighting Irish (32-0) - last year's BIG EAST champions - claimed their second consecutive conference tournament crown and extended the best start in school history with their third victory over the Blue Devils in five weeks.
The USC Trojans pulled off a major accomplishment by winning the program's first-ever Pac-12 women's championship with a 71-62 victory over the Oregon State Beavers. USC was the first team in the conference tournament's history to play four games in the four-day event, let alone the first team to WIN all four of those games.
