U-M cashes in on NW's gamble; Ohio St. ends MSU's title hopes
The Michigan Wolverines denied the Northwestern Wildcats' two-point conversion attempt with three seconds left in the game to hold on to the 10-9 victory at Ryan Field. Sophomore running back De'Veon Smith scored the Wolverines' lone touchdown - a three-yard rush midway through the 3rd quarter.
Smith led Michigan's offense with 121 yards & one touchdown on 18 carries while graduate student quarterback Devin Gardner completed 11-of-25 passes for 105 yards & two interceptions, despite a scoreless 1st half for both teams. The Wolverines will return home in two weeks (Saturday, Nov. 22) to play Maryland for the first time as a Big Ten opponent inside the Big House.
J.T. Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the #14 Ohio State Buckeyes scored almost at will against Michigan State's defense as they defeated the #8 Spartans, 49-37. Jeremy Langford ran for 137 yards & three touchdowns for Michigan State and quarterback Connor Cook threw for 358 yards & two touchdowns. The Spartans gained 536 yards and did not have a turnover, but werer still unable keep up with OSU.
Even though the Buckeyes handed the Spartans their first loss to a Big Ten opponent since 2012, MSU intends to bounce back next Saturday night when they go on the road to face Maryland at 8 pm.
